We hope you enjoy dicovering for yourself the beautiful south Pennines countryside in our area of Yorkshire. We are a community organisation, set up in 2006 by a group of local people who enjoy walking and want to encourage others to share our enjoyment. Our news page is regularly updated. Our friends in Mytholmroyd Walkers Action, in our neighbouring town, now have their own website. Campaigns. We're pressing for our footpaths and bridleways network to be maintained to the highest possible standards. Information for Walkers. Use this website for ideas of where to walk, for public transport information, and for details of organised group walks in and around Hebden Bridge. For more details of particular areas of countryside, and possible path problems, see our Adopt-a-Path pages. Gentle walking. There is increasing understanding of the value which walking can have for our health. Hebden Bridge Walkers' Action has produced a Gentle Walking leaflet, full of suggestions for strolls and ambles. Stepping out. Flights of stone steps are a unique feature of the history, landscape and footpath network in the locality. Our community photographic project to celebrate them took place in the summer of 2007 and resulted in a fantastic photomosaic of over 800 photographs. Adopt a Path. We have launched a pioneering scheme under which volunteers are undertaking to look after the rights of way in the 25 sq kms of countryside around Hebden Bridge. Information here. Walkers are Welcome. One of our first initiatives was to develop an accreditation scheme, to enable Hebden Bridge to have the accolade of Britain's first Walkers are Welcome town. Waymarking. Another major initiative has been the development of three waymarked routes from the centre of Hebden Bridge, to Hardcastle Crags, Heptonstall and Stoodley Pike.
